Opening Dua
O Allah, bless this Halaqa, allow us to gain, act upon and share beneficial knowledge.
Guide us, forgive our sins and grant us Jannah with our families and loved ones.
O my Lord increase me in knowledge*. رَّبِّ زِدْنِى عِلْمًا Ameen

Quran: Reciting
We read Surah Fatihah aloud altogether; then, each Sister recited a few lines from Surah Maryam verses 52-64, followed by Sister Rim, reading the English Approximation. In sha Allah, this will be an ongoing part of our Halaqa, and one day in sha Allah, we will have Khatam Quran and begin again.
Discussion: We discussed the following point from today’s reading.
Salawat (Arabic: صَلَوَات, ṣalawāt) is a special Arabic phrase, which contains the salutation upon the prophet of Islam. This kind of phrase is usually expressed by Muslims in their five daily prayers (during the Tashahhud) and also when the name of Muhammad had been mentioned.
Q: I've noticed that in many masaahif ("mushafs"), certain words like "salah" and "riba" have an extra, unpronounced letter waw in them, such as Surah Baqarah, verse 3:
The fifth word here is pronounced "salah," although the waw with the small alif above it is pronounced as an alif, not a waw.
A: This is called رسم عثماني Rasm Uthmani (Uthmanic orthography), which is the way the Quran was written down during the reign of Uthman bin Affan. Back then, the orthography (the way words are spelled) was different than the modern Arabic orthography in use today. Which leads to some words being spelled differently

Follow up post-Halaqa from Sister Shimaa
The Holy Qur’an did not mention in this verse - nor in other verses - any name for the children of Adam (peace be upon him): But Islamic narratives indicate that my two sons mentioned in this verse were “Abel” and “Cain”.
In Chapter Four, the Torah states that the two sons of Adam are named "Qa'in" and "Abel."
