Quran: Reciting

Sister Alia read Surah Fatihah aloud; then she recited from Surah Taa-Haa verses 114-125, followed by Sister Rim, reading the English Approximation by Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran.  In sha Allah, this will be an ongoing part of our Halaqa, and one day in sha Allah, we will have Khatam Quran and begin again.

Quran: Tafsir

Surah Taa-Haa verses 114-125

We have chosen to use Tafsir Ibn Kathir   Volume 6

Sister Alia read #1 & 3.

  1. The Qur'an was revealed so that the People would have Taqwa and reflect

The Command to the Prophet to listen to the Qur'an when it is revealed without making haste

  1. The Story of Adam and Iblis

Verses 115-122

  1. The Descent of Adam to the Earth and the Promise of Good for the Guided and Evil for the Transgressors

Verses 123-126

Discussion:

  • When working on Quran recitation, be more concerned with the quality of your memorizing, rather than the quantity.  Absorb the verses into your heart and brain.

  •  The difference between Guidance given to the Prophet and reminders that come in our daily life.

  • Sister Alia discussed Making Dua (Supplicating) While Reciting the Quran and shared a beneficial Q&A

  • Try to maintain your relationship with the Quran and your memorization. Even if you have memorized a little, don’t forget it, retain and build on it.

  • Sister Alia talked about the following video by Dr. Ayman Swaid. Particularly the dangers of forgetting what you memorized.  Make dua for Allah, swt to help you retain it and continue your journey of memorizing.

Part Three: Developing an Islamic Personality

Chapter 12       Additional Keys to Developing an Islamic Personality

Obedience in the family unit 2 pages

Pdf Page 163-165

Discussion:    The sisters had a very interesting discussion about obedience, each sharing her thoughts after listening to the reading.  At first, it seemed that there was a difference of opinion, but after more discussion, we all realized that we actually agreed with each other.  We felt the choice of words and word order in the book, didn’t fully relate the absolute Obedience to Allah, the Most High, and then the obedience to family etc is next.  This becomes natural, when the person you are obeying, husband, parent, has the love of Allah, first and foremost.

  • Sister Mai shared the following post Halaqa:

Verses that have "they ask you”

Compiled by Sister Shimaa for Halaqa #174

"آيات ورد فيها "ويسألونك

  • يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الْأَهِلَّةِ قُلْ هِيَ مَوَاقِيتُ لِلنَّاسِ وَالْحَجِّ ﴿١٨٩ البقرة﴾

  • Surah al-Baqarah 2:189 They ask you ˹O Prophet˺ about the phases of the moon. Say, “They are a means for people to determine time and pilgrimage.” Righteousness is not in entering your houses from the back doors.1 Rather, righteousness is to be mindful ˹of Allah˺. So enter your homes through their ˹proper˺ doors, and be mindful of Allah so you may be successful.

  • Surah al-Baqarah 2:215 They ask you ˹O Prophet in˺ what ˹way˺ they should donate. Say, “Whatever donations you give are for parents, relatives, orphans, the poor, and ˹needy˺ travellers. Whatever good you do is certainly well known to Allah.”

  • Surah al-Baqarah 2:217 They ask you ˹O Prophet˺ about fighting in the sacred months.2 Say, “Fighting during these months is a great sin. But hindering ˹others˺ from the Path of Allah, rejecting Him, and expelling the worshippers from the Sacred Mosque is ˹a˺ greater ˹sin˺ in the sight of Allah. For persecution3 is far worse than killing.

  • Surah al-Baqarah 2:219 ……….They ˹also˺ ask you ˹O Prophet˺ what they should donate. Say, “Whatever you can spare.” This is how Allah makes His revelations clear to you ˹believers˺, so perhaps you may reflect

  • Surah al-Baqarah 2:219 They ask you ˹O Prophet˺ about intoxicants and gambling. Say, “There is great evil in both, as well as some benefit for people—but the evil outweighs the benefit.”

  • Surah al-Baqarah 2:220 And they ask you ˹O Prophet˺ concerning orphans. Say, “Improving their condition is best. And if you partner with them, they are bonded with you ˹in faith˺.1 And Allah knows who intends harm and who intends good. Had Allah willed, He could have made it difficult for you.2 Surely Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.”

  • Surah al-Baqarah 2:222 They ask you ˹O Prophet˺ about menstruation. Say, “Beware of its harm! So keep away, and do not have intercourse with your wives during their monthly cycles until they are purified.1 When they purify themselves, then you may approach them in the manner specified by Allah. Surely Allah loves those who always turn to Him in repentance and those who purify themselves.”

  • Surah a-Ma’idah 5:4 They ask you, ˹O Prophet,˺ what is permissible for them ˹to eat˺. Say, “What is good and lawful. Also, what is caught by your hunting animals and birds of prey which you have trained as instructed by Allah. So eat what they catch for you, but mention the Name of Allah over it ˹first˺.” And be mindful of Allah. Surely Allah is swift in reckoning.

  • Surah al-Araf 7:187 They ask you ˹O Prophet˺ regarding the Hour, “When will it be?” Say, “That knowledge is only with my Lord. He alone will reveal it when the time comes. It is too tremendous for the heavens and the earth and will only take you by surprise.

  • Surah al-Araf 7:187 They ask you as if you had full knowledge of it. Say, “That knowledge is only with Allah, but most people do not know.”
