During the Covid-19 “stay at home” order, we have decided to hold our Halaqa online using Google Meet every Thursday morning in shaa Allah.

 

Opening Dua

O Allah, bless this Halaqa, allow us to gain, act upon and share beneficial knowledge. 

Guide us, forgive our sins and grant us Jannah with our families and loved ones. 

O my Lord increase me in knowledge*رَّبِّ زِدْنِى عِلْمًا   Ameen

*Part of ayah 114 Surah Taha(20)


Quran: Reciting

Sister Mai read Surah Fatihah as the other sisters read silently with her, then Sister Alia read Surah Maryam verses 12-25 followed by Sister Rim, reading the English Approximation.  In sha Allah, this will be an ongoing part of our Halaqa and one day in sha Allah, we will have Khatam Quran and begin again.

Surah Maryam verses 12-25


We have chosen to use Tafsir Ibn Kathir   Volume 6 

Sister Alia read parts 1 and 3

  1. What was said to Her after the Birth Some reciters read the Ayah as, (مَنْ تَحْتِهَا )

Discussion:  


We decided to do more research on tafsir #3. 


In last week's tafsir, there was a mention of the different pronunciation of the name Zakariya, We did some research and discovered that the name can be spelled in two different ways in Arabic and thus the different pronunciation.  We continued our discussion about the different readings of the Quran, “Qiraat” and in shaa Allah, we will have a lesson on this in the future.

Sister Shimaa provided a quick review and then continued her lesson about  Makhaarij

Sister Alia led us in the following dua for the brother of one of our dear Halaqa members. He was just diagnosed with cancer. 


O Allah! the Rubb of mankind! 

Remove this disease and cure the brother of our sister.  

You are the Great Curer. 

There is no cure but through You, which leaves behind no disease.

سُبْحـانَكَ اللّهُـمَّ وَبِحَمدِك، أَشْهَـدُ أَنْ لا إِلهَ إِلاّ أَنْتَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتوبُ إِلَـيْك

Subhânaka l-lâhumma wa bi-hamdika. Ash-hadu an lâ ilâha illâ anta, astaghfiruka wa atûbu ilayka..

We read Surah Fatihah aloud altogether, then Sister Alia read Surah Maryam verses 1-11 followed by Sister Rim, reading the English Approximation.  In sha Allah, this will be an ongoing part of our Halaqa and one day in sha Allah, we will have Khatam Quran and begin again.   


Note: We decided to designate one sister each week to read Surah Fatihah aloud while the remained of the sisters read with their microphones muted.

Sister Alia read # 3, 4. We discussed that there is more background and Sister Karima mentioned the relevant verse from Surah Ali Imran so we read that tafsir as well.

Discussion: We learn from the Prophet’s example if we need to break our oaths. It is nice to see the humanity of the Prophet’s wives, they excelled in worship yet experienced typical emotions as we do.
