Dua Al-Ghaib

Sister Alia led us in a Dua for a sister and her family who recently suffered a devastating fire.

Umm Salamah reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “No Muslim is afflicted with a calamity but that he should say what Allah has commanded him:

If he does so, Allah will replace it with something better.”

Source: Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 918

Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Muslim

Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Allah we will return. (2:156)

O Allah, reward our sister and her family in their affliction and replace it with something better than it.

Ya Allah, the Ever-Living the Ever Sustaining, it is Your mercy that we hope for, so do not leave our sister and her family in charge of their affairs for a blink of an eye, and rectify for them all of their affairs, non has the right to be worshipped except You.

Oh Allah the most Merciful, ease the pain and suffering of our sister and her family and guide them through this test, bless them and grant them comfort and contentment

Oh Allah all praise belongs to You, protect them from all calamities and evil. You have power over all things.

Quran: Tafsir

We all watched the following video, then the sisters asked the children various questions about the video.

Al-Fatiha explained for children

Quran: Learn Arabic

We all watched the following video, then we played a fun interactive game using flashcards.

Learn  a Dua

We had a Q & A session following the video with both the sisters and children asking and answering questions.

Snack Time

The children gladly chose from our small selection of snacks and then sat on our picnic mat to continue our Halaqa.
We watched the following video and then discussed it together.

Dua al-Ghaib

Sisters Alia and Mai led us all in a Dua to thank Allah for our blessings and to grant food, health, and blessings to those in need.

Children’s Knowledge Session

Each child had a turn to recite a portion of the Quran or answer a few simple questions that they were sure to know. Then they each received a small present that their moms chose for them from the Halaqa gift bag. The oldest child started the session and the youngest child finished it.
Following the end of the Halaqa, some children had great curiosity about the “Halaqa gift bag” so we allowed them to have a look and exchange their gifts if they wanted.

QURAN: READING

We read Surah Fatihah aloud altogether, then sisters individually read aloud a few letters/words, ayahs (according to her ability and with the help and encouragement of her fellow sisters). We read Surah Yusuf from Ayah 70 to Ayah 78.  In sha Allah, this will be an ongoing part of our Halaqa and one day in sha Allah, we will have Khatam Quran and begin again.

We discussed the issue of each sister saying: A’udhu billahi min ash-Shaytaan-ir-rajeem, Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim, aloud before their individual reading and a knowledgeable sister present informed us it would be ok for the first sister reading to say aloud and the rest to say quietly with her, then if the reading is continuous no need to repeat, but if the reading is interrupted, then that would require saying it again.

We also discussed the issue of how to correct individual recitations. We decided that only one sister should do this and it should be the one who is most knowlegable in this area. We decided that our Arabic Teacher Sister Noora, would be first in line to correct, followed by Sister M. Sister S and then Sister D depending on who was present.
Sisters read an English Approximation (Sahih International) of the above verses.

QURAN: TAFSIR

We have chosen to use Tafsir Ibn Kathir
Volume 5 Page 190-195 (From our library shelf)
We read from the following sections:
