Upon sighting the crescent moon

"Allah is the greatest. O Allah, let the crescent loom above us in safety, faith, peace, and Islam, and in agreement with all that You love and pleases You. Our Lord and your Lord is Allah."

Allâhu akbaru. Allâhumma ahillahu calaynâ bi-l-amni, wa-l-îmâni, wa s-salâmati, wa-l-islâmi, wa t-tawfîqi limâ tuhibbu rabbanâ wa tardâ. Rabbunâ wa rabbuka l-lâhu.
  • SISTERS TALK
Sister Sara presented an introductory talk to the 10 Qira’at and played for us a video that had Surah Fatihah read by the same reciter in all 10 Qira’at.  The sisters were asked to listen carefully and try to distinguish the subtle differences between them.

  • VIDEO
A question arose about tafseer videos for children, so we had a look at the following video.

  • DISCUSSION
During our Quran recitation, when Sister Winnie read her few lines, the sisters all corrected her saying “ you said a yaa, not a taa” .  But she insisted she didn’t make a mistake. Sister Sara looked at the Quran Sister Winnie had and discovered that in fact Sister Winnie had inadvertently picked up a Quran that was Warsh.  Many of the sisters were new to this and Sister Sara decided that she would present a few talks on the topic of the 10 Qira’at in sha Allah at upcoming Halaqas.
